Europe hosts a diverse range of forest ecosystems, including boreal forests, coniferous and broadleaved forests, mixed forests, woodland and shrublands, and floodplains, all shaped by its climate, geography, and land use. As we grapple with climate change, new policies and regulations, and society’s needs and expectations, providing forest owners and practitioners with the necessary knowledge and expertise has become even more crucial.
In line with these needs, the FORADVISE project addresses pressing issues by establishing a network to bridge European experts with national needs, challenges, and opportunities related to forest advisory services and best practices.
FORADVISE network of networks
The FORADVISE network serves as a bridging framework, connecting forestry advisory organisations, professionals, and networks at local, national, and EU levels.
How it operates:
- National/Regional Forest Advisory Networks comprise stakeholders and organisations involved in forest advisory services at national or regional levels, including the public and private sectors, research and education institutions, civil society organisations, and advocacy groups.
- Thematic Working Groups bring together experts to develop specialised knowledge and disseminate it back to national/regional networks.
The topics covered in the Thematic Working Groups include closer-to-nature forestry, climate change adaptation and forest protection, wood mobilisation, payment for ecosystem services, agroforestry and Non-Wood Forest Products.
- These networks then feed insights into the broader FORADVISE network.
Additionally, the Community of Practice (CoP) brings together network participants to define guidelines for the creation, governance and animation of advisory networks.
The role of the Community of Practice (CoP)
FORADVISE’s CoP serves as a co-learning space, integrating diverse regional, national, and thematic networks into a cohesive FORADVISE structure, thereby supporting knowledge sharing and collective action. The COPs will support FORADVISE in reaching the following objectives:
- Connecting forest advisors with research, policy, civil society, forest managers and forest owners.
- Identifying, organising, transferring, and disseminating innovative forestry practices, advisory methods, policy innovations, new technologies, and business models.
- Increasing advisors’ competencies through targeted training courses and materials.
Therefore, FORADVISE partners are working hard to help strengthen forest advisory and extension services across Europe, since they play a crucial role in maintaining healthy and resilient forest ecosystems.
